In developmental editing, I read your full manuscript and offer solutions to the issues I find in the plot, characterization, dialogue, theme and other aspects of your writing. You can choose a “deep dive” into every aspect of your text or a “developmental lite” pass that focuses on the key issues. Either service will help you identify and fix elusive problems in your writing.

This service involves a deep dive into the issues at every level of your story. You will receive an overview of the issues as well as detailed examination of each page, plus consultation time to discuss solutions.

In this service you will receive:

• 350-500 comments addressing every issue I see in your story, every time I see it. I’ll ask questions, identify issues, and make simple, actionable suggestions to address any problems.
• A 3-6 page editorial letter that discusses the main issues in a global way, from a bird’s-eye view of your whole story. These issues are organized in order of priority so you have a road map guiding you through the revision process.
• 3 hours of consultation time so that we can discuss the story issues in person over phone, Zoom, or messages.

This service costs $.02/word (USD$) An edit for a 50,000-word draft would cost $1000.

The “Lite” service offers many of the benefits of developmental editing in a more streamlined way. This service includes:

• 50-100 brief comments marking the key issues in your story
• 2 hours of personal consultation to discuss the issues. We will work together to formulate solutions over phone, Zoom, or messages.

This service costs $.01/word (USD$) An edit for a 50,000-word draft would cost $500.

The standard time required for each service is two weeks. Projects up to 80,000 words will be returned 14 calendar days from our agreed-upon start date. Projects up to 120,000 words will be returned in three weeks, and so on.

Rush timing to return a project in one week or less may be available for an additional fee, depending on my schedule.
